The Philippines
Genevive O. Estacaan has had an active career in the disaster relief and development sector in the Philippines.
Genevive began her career at Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) where she worked for almost 5 years as a consultant, where she set up a community health radio station in Tabon, Quezon, and produced radio broadcasts which aired in nine provinces across the Philippines.
She also worked as a broadcaster and producer for Typhoon Yolanda for a number of radio stations in the Philippines during the critical emergency phase following the Typhoon Yolanda crisis in 2013, providing critical information when all other communications lines were down.
Over the past four years, Genevive has served as the information management and communications officer for Oxfam’s Philippines Country Program in Manila. In this role, she managed Oxfam’s communications platforms in the Philippines, facilitated campaign-related projects, and trained partner organizations in developing communications materials and how to build creative assets, such as stories and photos during emergency campaigns.
Genevive is a keen blogger, and has written articles on the role of radio in disaster response and aid, challenges of women in Rohingha refugee camps in Bangladesh, on the aftermaths of typhoons in the region, and mobilizing community health volunteers in Nepal, to name a few.
While in Israel, she is enrolled on the M.A. in Glocal Community Development Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
She is passionate about empowering micro-entrepreneurs in the Philippines, especially women coffee farmers. Her hope is for better and increased collaboration between Israel and the Philippines in agriculture, technological innovation and disaster prevention.
