Roy Segal

Roy Segal is the Director of Business Development at IES Holdings, a publicly-traded company ($400 million market cap), included in the TA-90 Index, that specializes in industrial, commercial and residential real estate, aviation, capital markets, and infrastructure projects. Among his numerous responsibilities, Roy oversees the company’s strategic partnerships in China, and is in charge of facilitating AirPark, a 2,200 dunam (544 acre) national project for aviation-related services with a capacity of up to 500 aircraft.

Roy recently completed a year as a Rothschild Fellow pursuing an M.A. in Global Affairs at the Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University (where he was awarded Student of the Year 2019). Prior to his M.A., Roy earned his B.A. in Economics & East Asian Studies at Colombia University, graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He participated in exchange programs at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, and Peking University in Beijing, China.

While at Colombia University, Roy co-founded and served as co-President of the China-Israel Connection, organizing lectures, networking events and cultural celebrations to strengthen Sino-Israel relations on campus; establishing the China-Israel Connection Summer Fellowship Program, which enables students to intern at companies in Israel and China; and overseeing an expansion of this program to Harvard and UPenn.

While participating in the Schwarzman Program at Tsinghua University, Roy created a Sino-Hebraic transliteration system of Hebrew pinyin (Romanization of Chinese characters) to enable correct pronunciation of Chinese by Hebrew speakers. For this work, he received the Tsinghua University Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award. Over this year, he will be working to have this pronunciation system adopted as the official pronunciation for Mandarin Chinese in Israeli universities, government institutions and media outlets.

During his military service, Roy served in the IDF Intelligence Corps’ Unit 8200 as a Project Manager. His interests include playing the piano and Chinese linguistics. He speaks Mandarin Chinese proficiently.
