White Paper: Bridging Foodtech Ecosystems
WHITE PAPER:
BRIDGING ISRAEL’S & INDONESIA’S FOODTECH ECOSYSTEMS
A team of Israeli and Indonesian leaders from the food industry on the Israel-Asia Center’s 2025 Israel-Indonesia Futures program have co-authored a white paper on their vision for how to bridge the food innovation ecosystems of the two countries.
The comparative study examines the food innovation ecosystems of Israel and Indonesia – two nations that, despite their distinct geographies and developmental paths, demonstrate significant potential for mutual learning and strategic collaboration.
“Israel and Indonesia, though differing in economic scale, innovation maturity, and policy coherence, hold immense potential for synergistic collaboration in transforming food systems,” write the paper’s authors.
“Israel’s strength lies in deep-tech infrastructure, centralized policy, and a global-first mindset. In contrast, Indonesia offers cultural richness, market scale, and grassroots entrepreneurship embedded in its food innovation landscape.”
“Their complementary profiles suggest a powerful partnership model – where Israeli technologies can be localized for tropical, Muslim-majority contexts, and Indonesian enterprises can learn from Israel’s structured approaches to funding, R&D, and commercialization. Together, they can co-develop innovations that meet both ethical and environmental standards, contributing to the global agenda of food security and sustainable development.”
The authors emphasize collaboration over competition, suggesting that the challenges faced by each country can be addressed through bilateral programs that foster mutual learning, shared investment, and policy harmonization.
“In a world facing urgent food system crises, the time is ripe for visionary alliances. By bridging their ecosystems, Israel and Indonesia can not only nourish their own societies but also inspire a new era of globally connected, culturally conscious food innovation.”
Israel-Indonesia Futures is an annual 4-month online program bringing together emerging and established leaders from Israel and Indonesia for joint learning and high-level partnership-building – paving the way towards people-to-people relations in the absence of diplomatic ties.
